Mentoring Young Adults with Special Needs
Piccolo & Dolce provides a safe space where people of all abilities can take pride in their work and encourage others to reach their goals.
We offer a delicious collection of candy and other sweet treats, all in the name of a great cause. We aim to create a positive community where young adults with disabilities can learn, develop workplace skills, and gain a sense of self confidence.
At Piccolo & Dolce, we’re dedicated to building a strong, well-prepared team of workers. We aim to provide a comfortable environment where young adults with special needs can gain work experience and reach their individual goals. In order to best prepare our candy shop crew, we look to community members for their support.
We welcome our neighbors to become a part of our mission and mentor our candy shop workers. Our goal is to provide an uplifting environment centered around direction, training, and encouragement. Volunteers will have the opportunity to work closely with our crew of young adults with special needs. Our volunteers will help candy shop crew develop the essential workplace skills needed for future employment opportunities.
Mentors will set a positive example for our workers and share their knowledge of customer service, retail tasks, and workplace skills. Volunteers will help instill pride, perseverance, and dedication into the members of our team. They will also help prepare candy shop workers to become certified food handlers according to the Illinois Department of Public Health’s training program.
